Perry was born in Chicago to two actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut on television as Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC sitcom Roseanne. In fear of stress, her parents did not want to see performing before she reached the age of age 18. Perry stated that she was too shy to act in high school but began acting in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer to the university from Boston University. Perry was able to land minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent following her graduation. The feeling of homelessness, however, caused her to move back to California and she returned performing in the stage. Perry performed with her mom as part of The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry had an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal with her father. She also played in the role of a older Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon, an CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The role was given to her through audition, regardless of the fact that she has a family tie to the character.
